It's everything bad about high school AUs, except that usually high school AUs are made by amateurs who are just having fun and this was made by a professional animation studio whose motives I question. The Smooze is a genuinely terrifying being, especially giving the setting it was in - with the ability to grow to gargantuan sizes it spread across all of Ponyland (the original Ponyville) and buried anything (living or not) in its path completely ruining the land and turning once paradise-like fields and castles into barren wastelands. I mean, I guess it's not the WORST, but it really cranks that high school AU up to eleven.
